Spotify App Configuration

To import playlists you need Spotify API credentials. Visit the Spotify Developer site to create an app and get your Client ID and Client Secret.

Spotify Requirements

The Spotify account you create the app with needs an active Premium subscription. This is a limitation Spotify added in 2026, not something this app can work around. The same change limits you to one app per Spotify account and a maximum of 5 connected users.

Creating Your App

  1. Go to the Spotify Developer Dashboard
  2. Log in with your Spotify account (this account needs Premium, see above)
  3. Click “Create App”
  4. Fill in the required fields:
    • App Name: Choose any name (e.g., “Spotify to Plex”)
    • App Description: A brief description (can be anything)
    • Redirect URI: https://jjdenhertog.github.io/spotify-to-plex/callback.html

For alternative redirect URI options (e.g., direct localhost), see Authentication.

Configuration Settings

Once you have created your Spotify app, note these values:

Setting Description
Client ID Your app’s unique identifier
Client Secret Your app’s secret key (keep this private!)
Redirect URI https://jjdenhertog.github.io/spotify-to-plex/callback.html

Add these to your Docker environment:

-e SPOTIFY_API_CLIENT_ID=your_client_id_here
-e SPOTIFY_API_CLIENT_SECRET=your_client_secret_here
-e SPOTIFY_API_REDIRECT_URI=https://jjdenhertog.github.io/spotify-to-plex/callback.html

The redirect URI in your Spotify app must exactly match the SPOTIFY_API_REDIRECT_URI environment variable.

Next Steps

After creating your Spotify app, you can start using Spotify to Plex. For details about how the redirect flow works or alternative configurations, see Authentication.
